Most regions in Zimbabwe start to have rainfall mid-November towards the year end and it is critical for house and property owners to ensure that their rain gutters have been cleaned to ensure that the gutters properly manage rain-water when it collects on their roofs.

To those who have not installed rain gutters yet, it is advisable that you do so before it is too late.

Here are some of the reasons you should clean your gutters before the rain comes:

Over the course of the year leaves, dirt and debris will collect in your gutters and would need to be removed before the rain falls. They add extra weight to your gutters and may cause them to sag away from your roof.

The dirt, leaves and debris can block the downpipes and may also cause water to overflow and go on to damage your house and landscaping which betrays the work your gutters are supposed to do.

Clogged water, leaves and debris are not a good combination. The moisture they contain may lead to little plants and weeds growing in your gutters. These will also block the water from collecting in the gutters to be safely channelled away from your house.

The dirt and debris in your gutters may also invite unwanted pests, rodents and insects. Some of these maybe be dangerous and make it uncomfortable for you to enjoy your peace. Birds are also attracted to the leaves in your gutters and may build their nests there which can be a problem when the rain comes.
