During the construction or renovation of a house or other commercial establishments, it is always important for home owners or owners of the buildings to be always abreast with what is going on and be knowledgeable in areas such as proper building materials going into the project, standards that must be met and what the final product ought to look like.

We have always noticed that in a lot of cases, homeowners are given substandard services and products and therefore we urge homeowners to educate themselves on such matters so that they receive the value of their money when they pay for services or products in the construction industry.

As Soltam Steel we are in the business of supplying and installing seamless gutters among other products and we have decided to share on what home owners should look out for to ensure that their seamless gutters have been installed properly.

Seamless gutters are not made as a one size fits all, they are custom made following specific measurements and therefore they must always fit the size and design of your house. Anything other than that should raise a red flag and you must start asking all the necessary questions.

It is always important to note that a properly installed gutter system has horizontal seamless gutters that run along every sloped roof edge on a building and these gutters are responsible for catching rainwater from the roof. The gutters must be securely fastened to the fascias for them to not fall.

The gutters must have end caps at the end to stop water from prematurely existing the gutter, corner mitres to join the gutters at roof corners and gutter brackets as well as exterior and interior hangers to fasten and add support to the gutter.

A properly installed seamless gutter system also has down pipes or downspouts that collect water from the gutters and directs to the ground away from the building. Downspouts must also be secure, stable and fastened to the exterior walls using pipe cleats and pipe straps.

Downspouts are also fitted with elbows which connect the gutters and downpipes. At the bottom downspouts are fitted with a downpipe shoe to direct water away from your foundation or walls.

When all these features have been installed the final tests comes with the rain. Your gutters must not leak, hold or clog water as well as fall or break easily due to the pressure from the water.
