Rain gutters are an important feature of your building meant to protect your establishment by acting as a rain management system which collects water from the rooftop channelling it away from your house to prevent cracks in the foundation or damage your landscaping.
It is important that gutters are regularly cleaned and maintained in order for them to function efficiently, have a longer life span as well as retain their aesthetic look which always tends to give a facelift to your residential or commercial establishment.
In order for you to always make sure that they always function efficiently here are 6 signs that will let you know that your gutters need to be cleaned or repaired:
Sagging gutters: If you see your gutters start to sag it means something is weighing them down and they may eventually succumb to that weight and fall apart. You should immediately inspect and clean them as leaves, debris and water may have collected in the gutters adding extra weight.
Clogged water in your gutters: After a rainfall some water may remain trapped in the gutters and this maybe a result of leaves and debris which would have collected in your gutters preventing them from disposing off the water.
Rain overflowing from your gutters: If water starts to overflow from your gutters during a rainfall it only means one thing, something is blocking it. This maybe be a result of leaves and debris which would have collected and accumulated overtime due to lack of cleaning.
Pests and insects in your gutters: If you see pests and other uninvited guests such as mosquitoes and flies it means it is time to inspect your gutters. These are usually attracted to dirt and humid conditions caused by clogged water, debris and leaves in the gutters.
Plants and weeds: if you see small plants start to grow in your gutters it means you have neglected your gutters to the extent that mother nature has decided to take over from you. Plants or weeds may grow as a result of dirt, leaves, debris and clogged water which provide a conducive environment for them to grow.
Birds and Critters: If you see birds and others animals such as rodents calling your gutters their home you must immediately take action and clean them. While birds may create nests which will be a problem when the rain comes, rodents are also attracted to the leaves collecting in the gutters which would provide comfortable bedding for them. This might may also be a danger to you as the rodents may attract dangerous predators which might attack you too.
